What do the buttons on my rear view mirror actually do?

I recently got a new car and I’ve noticed there are a few buttons on the rear view mirror that I’m not quite sure about. I thought it would be helpful to gather some info on what these buttons do, especially since I am curious about how to take full advantage of all the features.

Here’s what I’ve seen on my rear view mirror:

  • A button for auto-dimming
  • Another button that looks like a house (possibly for homelink?)
  • A few others that I’m unsure about their purpose.

Questions:

  1. Auto-Dimming Feature: How does the auto-dimming feature work? Does it automatically adjust based on light, or is there a specific setting I need to engage?
  2. Homelink: For those who have experience with the homelink button, how do you program it? Is there anything specific I should know about compatibility with garage doors?
  3. Other Buttons: What do the other buttons typically do? I’ve found a few that aren’t mentioned in the manual, and I’m wondering if they have any specific functions I should be aware of.

Troubleshooting:

  • If the auto-dimming feature isn’t working, what might be some common issues to check?
  • Are there any maintenance tips for keeping these features functional?

I appreciate any advice or insights you can provide! Looking forward to hearing from others who have navigated this before.

The buttons on your rear view mirror can do a lot! Most commonly, you’ll find auto-dimming features to reduce glare at night and buttons for garage door openers. These can really enhance your driving experience by keeping you safer and more comfortable.

Absolutely! Plus, some mirrors have Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free calls, which is super handy! You can set it up to automatically connect when you enter the car.

I’ve always wondered about that auto-dimming feature. Does anyone know how it works? Is it sensor-based or something?

Great question! Most auto-dimming mirrors use sensors to detect light levels. When a bright light approaches, the mirror darkens automatically!

I love my rear view mirror with the garage door opener! It’s so convenient to just press a button without fumbling around with a remote.

Definitely! But sometimes I worry about programming it. I always fear I’ll accidentally open the neighbor’s garage instead of mine!

I found that my rear view mirror also has some buttons I haven’t figured out. Does anyone have tips on using the Bluetooth feature effectively?

Make sure your phone is discoverable! Once it’s connected, you’ll be able to make calls just by using the mirror controls. It can be a real game changer on the road!

What about mirrors with smart features? I think it’d be funny to see my mirror making calls on its own!

Haha! I can just imagine my rear view mirror saying, ‘Hello, this is your mirror! How can I assist you today?’

All this talk about features is great, but has anyone ever had issues with their rear view mirror buttons? Mine sometimes don’t respond well.

Hey everyone! I’m really curious about the buttons on my rear view mirror. I know some control auto-dimming, but what do the others do? Any help would be appreciated!

Great question! My mirror has a home link button for the garage door opener, and I’ve heard some mirrors even control the interior lights. It’s worth checking your manual for specifics!

If you’re experiencing unresponsive buttons like me, I suggest cleaning around the buttons with a soft cloth. Sometimes, dirt can cause them to stick. Good luck!

I’ve had the same issue! It turned out my mirror was just super dirty. After a quick clean, everything started working again.

I had to replace mine last year. It was tricky but doable. You just need to follow instructions carefully. There are plenty of YouTube tutorials out there!

I actually just replaced my mirror! The auto-dimming stopped working, but it turned out to be a simple fuse issue. Check that before replacing!

This might be a silly question, but how do you know if the auto-dimming is malfunctioning or just not activated? Mine seems to be stuck in bright mode.

Not a silly question! If you see the inside of your mirror brightening at night from headlights, the auto-dimming isn’t working properly. Might need a replacement.
