I just got my 2024 BMW X5, and the key fob is a bit confusing! Can anyone tell me how to pair it with the car?
To pair the key fob, try sitting in the driver’s seat, then hold the fob against the start button while pressing the brake. It might take a few tries!
I’ve been having issues with mine not unlocking the doors sometimes. Any troubleshooting steps?
Great tip, nwilliams! I found out that the fob must be within a few inches of the start button for it to sync. Very sensitive!
I tried that, and it didn’t work for me. Should I try getting the battery replaced?
Yeah, definitely check the battery first! It could be low. New batteries can sometimes fix all kinds of fob issues.

Has anyone had luck programming a second key fob? I’m getting mixed information online.

To program a second fob, the car needs to be in accessory mode. Hold the new fob close to the start button and press it when prompted. It’s tricky!
I’ve had mine reset twice already! I thought I was doing it wrong, but now I see it’s a common issue, jeffrey09.
True! And I have to ask, is anyone else having trouble with the electronic tailgate?
The tailgate issue! It randomly won’t open for me too! Could we be dealing with a software glitch?
Unlike my previous car, I feel like I need a PhD just to operate the tech in this BMW. Anyone else?

Unlike my previous car…
Haha, right? It’s like they designed it for rocket scientists! But hang in there! We’re all in this together.
Thanks for the support, colleen52! I feel better knowing I’m not alone in this. Time to reach out for help from the dealership if these issues continue.
To replace the battery in your 2024 BMW X5 key fob, you’ll need a CR2450 battery. It’s pretty straightforward, just follow the steps below:

What are the steps, exactly? I’m a bit worried about breaking it while opening! Anyone done it before?
The steps are as follows: 1) Use a small flathead screwdriver to gently pry open the seam. 2) Remove the old battery and replace it with a CR2450. 3) Snap it back together. Be gentle!

Thanks! Is there a particular time interval for replacing the battery, or does it depend on usage?

Generally, you should replace the battery every 1-2 years, depending on how often you use the key fob. Regular checks are a great idea!
