Need Help Finding GKN Axle Shaft Left for E90 M3

I’m currently searching for a GKN axle shaft specifically for the left side of my E90 M3, and I’m hoping to get some advice or recommendations from others who might have experience with this part.

A few questions I have:

  • Where can I find a reliable source to purchase the GKN axle shaft? Are there any recommended retailers or online stores that others have used?
  • What should I be cautious about when purchasing? Any specific features or compatibility issues I should consider?
  • Has anyone gone through the installation process? If so, any tips or guides you could share?

I’ve heard great things about GKN parts in terms of quality, but I’d love to hear about personal experiences regarding the longevity and performance of the axle.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

Hey vshaw, I just installed a GKN shaft last month! It fits perfectly, but make sure to check the measurements before buying. Also, you might need to adjust the mounting brackets slightly.

Great info, johnsonkristen! Can you share the exact measurements you used for the installation? I’m worried about compatibility issues.

I’ve heard that GKN shafts sometimes require minor mods to fit perfectly. Anyone faced that issue?

Actually, I’ve heard about fitment issues in the past. Some folks had to grind down the frame a little to get the GKN shafts in place. Just depends on your car’s specifics!

Yikes! I hope it doesn’t come to that. I really don’t want to mess with the frame of my car.

Does anyone know if the GKN axle shafts are compatible with M3 variants other than E90? Asking for a friend!

I believe they are generally compatible with E92 and E93 as well, but it’s good to double-check specifics!

That’s great to know! I’ve been considering options for my E92 M3 too. Thanks for the info, schmidtmichelle!

Just keep in mind that some users had success with a different brand that offered a better fitment without modification. Food for thought!

I heard that the Driveshaft Shop makes solid axles that fit perfectly. Could be worth checking out!

Just remember, folks, when you think of maintenance, GKN sounds like ‘good enough’! But sometimes, the other brands might not ‘drive’ you as crazy!

I’ve been using GKN axle shafts on my E90 M3 for a year now. The performance has been solid, and I haven’t noticed any durability issues yet. Definitely a step up from stock.

That’s great to hear, llittle! What kind of driving do you usually do? Track days or just daily driving?

I’ve used a few different brands before settling on GKN. Their axle shafts are more robust than some competitors, especially when you push the car hard. Just my two cents!

I totally agree! I’ve found their reliability exceeds others, but they can be pricey. Worth it, though!

GKN has a great reputation for quality. If you’re looking for long-term performance, they’re a trustworthy option. Just ensure they’re installed correctly to maximize reliability.

One thing I noticed is that GKN axles are less prone to breaking, even under aggressive driving conditions. I’ve had my M3 for a while, and they hold up well.

What’s the warranty like on GKN products? If any of you have experienced issues, did they handle the warranty claims well?
