Anyone Using the Lectron Tesla to J1772 Adapter? Need Your Thoughts!

I’m considering getting the Lectron Tesla to J1772 adapter to use my Tesla with various charging stations I’ve come across. I’ve done some reading, but I’m still unsure if it’s truly worth it.

Compatibility and Usability

  • How compatible is this adapter? I’ve seen some mixed reviews about this adapter working seamlessly with all Tesla models. If you’ve used it, would love to hear which model you have and how it worked out.
  • Charging speed and efficiency: I’d like to know if anyone has experienced any significant differences in charging speed when using the Lectron adapter compared to the regular Tesla charger. Does it maintain the same level of power delivery?

Real-World Performance

  • Are there specific charging stations, brands, or locations where this adapter performs better? I’m mainly looking to charge at public stations during road trips where Tesla superchargers aren’t available.
  • User reviews: If you own this adapter, what has your overall experience been? Are there specific pros and cons you’ve noticed compared to regular charging methods?

Recommendations

  • If you would recommend it to others, what would be your main selling points? And on the flip side, if there are better alternatives out there, I’d appreciate those suggestions as well!

Thanks for your feedback! Looking forward to hearing about your experiences!

I recently purchased the Lectron Tesla to J1772 adapter for my Model 3, and it’s been a game-changer! It works seamlessly with public chargers. Just a heads up, it’s not rated for DC fast charging, only Level 2 charging.

I’ve heard great things about compatibility with other EVs too! Has anyone tried it with a Chevy Bolt or Nissan Leaf?

I’ve used it with a Nissan Leaf and it worked without any hassles! It’s perfect for diversifying charging options. Just make sure your EV isn’t too old for J1772 – I think 2018 and newer models are best.

My Model S has been charging fine with the Lectron adapter. Just remember, you might lose a bit of charging speed compared to Tesla’s own chargers. But for road trips, it’s super convenient!

Definitely! I found the charging speed to be acceptable for most situations, especially on long trips!

I think this is a must-have for any Tesla owner! It’s compact and easy to use. I actually laughed when I realized how many J1772 stations were available—I felt like an explorer!

Exploration sounds fun! Just make sure to check your adapter regularly for wear and tear. I’ve had mine for a year and it’s still in good shape but can’t be too careful!

I’m curious! Has anyone faced issues with charging at Level 1 stations using the Lectron adapter? I read some posts that mentioned it might not perform well there.

I’ve tried it at a Level 1 and it did indeed take forever! Level 2 is definitely the way to go with this adapter.

While it’s great for home use, just remember, it can get a bit bulky. I joke that it’s my ‘emergency power supply’ for unexpected charging stops!

I appreciate all this info, everyone! I’m thinking of making the switch to a J1772-compatible model. Any suggestions?

If you’re considering a new EV, look into the Hyundai Kona or the Ford Mustang Mach-E! They both have great compatibility stats and user reviews for J1772.

It’s interesting how adapters are making Tesla charging more versatile! It’s like I have a Swiss Army Knife for charging. But is there a risk of damaging the car with these adapters?

I’ve been using the Lectron adapter for a couple of months now. The charging speed is decent, but not as fast as the dedicated Tesla chargers. I usually get around 6-7 kW with J1772. Definitely slower than using a Tesla supercharger.

That’s good to know, rcollins! I was worried it would be much slower. Can you share your experience with the range it gives you?

I primarily use my Lectron adapter on Level 2 home charging stations. I find that for overnight charging, it works perfectly. But if you need to charge quickly for a road trip, it’s not ideal compared to supercharging.

I totally agree, danielle. For everyday use, it’s fine, but planning a long trip requires more thinking ahead!

I’ve had my Lectron adapter for a year now. The performance is consistent, but I do notice it gets a bit warm during use. Has anyone else experienced this?

Yes, I’ve noticed that too! Just keep an eye on it. It’s good to hear that overall it’s reliable though!
