Anyone else had issues with BMW door lights?

I’ve been looking into the door lights on my BMW, specifically the projector lights or puddle lights, and I’m curious if anyone else has had experience with them.

Here are some things I’d like to discuss:

  • Installation Process: How easy is it to install these lights? Do they just plug in, or is there some wiring involved?
  • Brands and Options: What brands do you all recommend? I’ve seen a few options online, but I want to know what has worked best for others.
  • Functionality: How effective are these lights at illuminating the ground? Do they stay on for a while after you open the door, or do they turn off immediately?
  • Troubleshooting: If anyone has had issues with their lights not working, what were the common problems you faced? Was it just a blown fuse, or was it a wiring issue?
  • Upgrades: Are there upgrades available that enhance the light quality or add features?

I’m aiming to brighten up the entrance a bit and add some style to my BMW. Any tips or suggestions you guys could share would be greatly appreciated! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

I’ve had my door lights flickering for months! It seems to be a common issue with BMW. I’m considering going the OEM route, but aftermarket options could be cheaper.

I totally get you, Ashley! Have you looked into brands like F80 Lighting? I’ve heard mixed reviews about them.

OEM is definitely more reliable, but prices can be sky-high! I’d suggest trying some aftermarket options if you’re in a pinch.

True! However, I’ve added aftermarket lights before and they worked just fine, apart from one that shorted out. Careful with online reviews!

I had a similar issue with flickering lights. I went for OEM replacements, and they’ve been solid for over a year now.

That’s encouraging to hear! Was it difficult to install them yourself?

I had issues with aftermarket lights from DazzleLux. They looked cool but burned out quickly. Definitely prefer sticking with OEM!

Ugh, that sounds frustrating! Maybe we should create a list of reliable brands for BMW door lights.

I’ve had good luck with Philips LEDs. They’re bright, last a long time, and you don’t break the bank!

Philips is a solid choice! I love the humor in how some lights can make your car feel ‘fancy’!

I’m curious about those lights, too! Do they fit well in more than just the BMW models? Any models you recommend?

Great question! Most LED lights fit various models, but best to check compatibility before purchase.

I was thinking about going all out with some custom door projector lights. Those would definitely wow your friends!

I had issues with my BMW door lights too! Installing them requires basic tools like a screwdriver and a trim removal tool. Always disconnect the battery before starting! Does anyone have a step-by-step guide?

I actually made a video on installing door lights in my BMW! It covers everything from tools needed to troubleshooting. Let me know if you want the link!

Absolutely! It’s vital for safety. I also recommend having a multimeter handy to check connections.

I found that the biggest issue was making sure the clips were properly aligned. If not, the lights won’t fit snugly. Any tips on how to ensure that alignment?

By the way, has anyone experienced flickering lights after installation? That could be a sign of loose wiring.

Exactly! In my case, simply reseating the connector solved the issue. Definitely check that on your end!
